Women's Adventure was started as Dandelion magazine in 2003 with the tagline The Magazine for Women Who Thrive in the Wild. Michelle Theall, a former Women's Sports + Fitness magazine staffer, missed having an authentic and adventurous (non-weight loss driven) magazine around, so she started her own.

In January 2008, Women's Adventure was acquired by Big Earth Publishing. Women’s Adventure Magazine will be the cornerstone for Big Earth’s new magazine publishing division.

In it’s sixth year Women’s Adventure Magazine strives to represent the 70 million women who participate in outdoor sports. David Oskin, President of Big Earth Publishing, said: “We are extremely excited to add Women’s Adventure Magazine to the Big Earth Family and look forward to working with Michelle and her team”.

Michelle said, “The resources and commitment of Big Earth Publishing will allow Women’s Adventure to continue to grow and serve its loyal reader base."

Big Earth Publishing owns three book publishers in Colorado, Westcliffe Publishers, Johnson Books and 3D Press. Women’s Adventure Magazine will continue to be based in Colorado.
