I opened Susan Casey’s new book, The Wave: In Pursuit of the Rogues, Freaks, and Giants of the Ocean, and read a few chapters before bed. I woke at 2am drenched in sweat, convinced that a four-story wall of water had swallowed me whole. The Wave is that good.

As many of you probably know, eight years ago I started Women’s Adventure magazine. Four years ago, I launched the Creative Conferences. Both of these endeavors grew out of the belief that our words and images have an almost mystical ability to inspire, unite, and inform those around us.
