The Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) is a membership organization whose mission is advocacy, education and resources for women in the outdoor, bike, and snowsports industries. They are currently seeking nominations for two awards that honor female leaders in these industries.

The Pioneering Woman Award recognizes a “maven of mentoring,” and the First Ascent Award acknowledges an industry newcomer who demonstrates strong leadership potential.

Pioneering Woman Award

Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition created the Pioneering Woman Award to honor women in the outdoor industry who have furthered the vision of the OIWC by demonstrating an outstanding commitment to mentoring female colleagues.

The Pioneering Woman Award was introduced in the outdoor industry in 2002, and in 2006, OIWC introduced the first Pioneering Woman Award in both the snowsports and the bike industries.

First Ascent Award

The Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition created the perfect complement to the Pioneering Woman Award with its First Ascent Award. This award recognizes a woman new to the industry who demonstrates strong potential for leadership.

The award furthers the vision of OIWC by increasing visibility of talented young women at lower levels in an organization, thereby facilitating their leadership development on their journey to future leadership.

OIWC is currently accepting nominations. They will present winners with their awards at two upcoming trade shows: the Outdoor Retailer Show Winter Market in Salt Lake City on January 21st and the Snowsports Industry Association show on January 28 in Denver. Donna Carpenter, president of Burton Snowboards, will speak in Salt Lake City; the Denver speaker is yet to be announced, be OIWC promises that she will be great!

Submit your nominations HERE by December 15.
