Our Hero: Rebecca Rusch

While this weekend’s side-trip to the finish line of the Leadville 100 was a bit spontaneous for me–I only decided to go with a few minute’s notice–the first-place woman finisher, Rebecca Rusch, had her eye on it for a long, long time.

Rebecca’s been riding for more than 28 years and has more titles in mountain biking (and Nordic skiing) than most people have books on their bookshelves–including the 24-hour mountain bike national champion and she’s been Idaho’s state cyclocross champion. This weekend, she shattered the women’s record for the Leadville 100–one of the most famous endurance mountain bike events–and crossed the finish line in just over 7-hours and 47 minutes. She still managed to hoist her dirt-covered Specialized over her head and flash us a smile when it was all over. Congrats Rebecca!
