Sagebrush and Sheep

From Minneapolis, the second leg of my road trip took me northwest into North Dakota, where I stayed at a friend’s farm. After a few days on the farm, I traveled west across most of North Dakota, south through the northwestern corner of South Dakota, and along the eastern edge of Wyoming toward Colorado. It would end up being about 1200 miles and 19 hours.

During this time in my trip, many of the things I learned happened outside my vehicle. First, babies will and do spit up whenever they want. Second, don’t be surprised when a 5-year-old can dance better than you. Third, a big gust of wind can come along at any time, so be careful because it might knock you down. Fourth, a beautiful sunset still has the ability to take my breath away no matter where I am. Fifth, when you are out in the middle of a North Dakota farm, you don’t have to lock all the doors before you go to bed at night.

If the theme of the first portion of my trip was cornfields and cows, I would say the theme for the second part of my trip was sagebrush and sheep. And, at times, there was nothing but sagebrush. To some, it may not sound that exciting, but I didn’t mind. I drove through seven states in 10 days and added more than 2,000 miles on my odometer. It was a great road trip, and I would do it all over again if I had the chance. I had the opportunity to visit friends, congratulate a couple on their beautiful wedding, and see some amazing places along the way. In the end, when I finally put my vehicle into park one last time, I looked up and saw that I made it back to Colorado just in time to watch the sunset.
