Colorado Opening Day with Jennifer Rudolph, Colorado Ski Country USA and Rob Goodell, Loveland Ski Area/Photographer Jack Dempsey
It started more than a month ago with a Thursday-night screening at the local indie theater: The face shots, the powder, the epic aerial images of slopes so wild and pristine that I literally gasped. It continued when I drove through the heart of the Rockies: powdered-sugar snow just dusting the tops of the Tenmile Range. Today, most of Colorado is under a winter storm warning and it’s officially day two of the 2010/2011 ski season at Loveland Ski Area.
Here in Colorado ski season is a highly anticipated paradigm shift. Friends coordinate season passes, weekend wake-up times drop dramatically, and goggle-tans begin replacing Chaco tans. Oh sure, the first few runs down the mile-long run at Loveland won’t rival your best-ever, but hey, you’re still rusty and every snowstorm of the next six months signals a new beginning and another opportunity to carve some first turns.
