After visiting snowy Rocky Mountain National Park Sunday, I’m eager to hit the hills again soon. This—my first snow fix of the season—was sure a good way to kick off winter. Editor Kristy Holland, I, and a few others trekked up a road using the winter issue’s top-ra
ted gear then wandered around Bear Lake. The little snow there was just enough to please me and spark my hunger for the next time I get to play in it. We swished snow angels into it, packed it around a friend sprawled on the lake, and of course threw and dodged hundreds of snowballs. The day’s combo of lighthearted banter, monstrous icicles, and pristine powder inspired many laughs, gasps, and peaceful sighs. Find photos to prove it below or, better yet, head toward toward the mountains and make your own memories this weekend.

Jennifer Olson, earned degrees in English and print journalism from the University of New Mexico before setting out to find new adventures—in a new town, with a new job, in a new house, exploring new trails. As the newest addition to Women’s Adventure, she feels like a natural when it comes to gear reviewing. Her work has appeared in New Mexico Magazine, in the "2010 New Mexico Vacation Guide," and on VeloNews.com, but she also served as editor in chief of her alma mater’s art and literary publication, Conceptions Southwest. Playing with magnetic poetry on her refrigerator helped Jennifer develop a philosophy by which she still lives: “If you publish a cliché, go explore real inspiration."
