Perfect Posture
So you’ve got a bike that fits. Now, how should you sit? Toni, pictured below
, is following a few simple guidelines that will help you perfect your posture.
Bend at your hips, not at your waist. A straight back keeps your head and neck properly aligned for comfort, and keeps your lungs open for deep, easy breaths. With the right saddle (yes, there is a right saddle!), this will be your most comfortable position on the bike.
Support yourself with your core, not with your hands. This keeps weight off your wrists and palms, so you feel less fatigue. And you’ll strengthen your core as you ride!
Keep your hands in line with your shoulders, with arms relaxed and slightly bent. Relaxed arms and an easy grip on the bars will save your strength and improve how your bike handles.
Relax your shoulders and neck to take full advantage of the tension-relieving powers of riding your bike. This will also make it easier to look over both shoulders for a complete, safe view of your surroundings.
Practice these simple posture tips, and you’ll ride with comfort and confidence, and look great doing it!
