Any of us who regularly go out and sweat while we’re riding, running, paddling, climbing, boarding, etc., know we can’t keep having fun without replacing electrolytes. For me, that usually means some sort of sports drink mix, swigged for several hours, while I hit the asphalt or trails on my bike. By the end of the road, I never want to taste another molecule of sugar, ever again in my life. My teeth are aching from all that sugar. Just give me a salt lick instead.
I found nuun tablets in their nifty little tube at a very fancy bike store. They were about the only thing in there I could afford, so I gave them a try on my next ride. Wow, what a relief! Little effervescent tablets you just drop in your water bottle with a light, refreshing taste and very little sweetness. The perfect chaser for your energy bar or gel (which will take care of the carbos you need to replace). I found myself drinking more and that’s really the whole idea because it’s so easy to not drink enough, particularly when you don’t really like the taste of what you’re drinking. The tube of tablets fits easily into a seat bag, so if you have access to water, you have your electrolyte replacement on board. No more sticky sweet drinks, messy bags of mix, or expensive little individual serving packets.
Just a suggestion to nuun: give us a “refill” box of tablets, so we don’t have to keep throwing away or recycling the plastic tubes - think green!
Grab a tube next time you’re at your local running or cycle store! 12 tablets per tube priced between about $5.50 and $6.50 depending on where you find them.
P.S. I’m riding about 2 mph faster this season - think hydration could have anything to do with it?
