THis is awesome. I’m actually planning a hiking trip with just girls for the second weekend of July in Colorado (or possibly Yosemite depending on a friend’s schedule). We can’t afford to take anymore than a weekend, but we are getting away for a weekend with no men, no phones, no anything. I can’t wait.

Good for you girls and do make this an annual trip. I sure plan to.

Send us photos from your trip, Kristi! We’d love to share them in our hiking toolbox.

I, too, look forward to the “simple rhythm that comes easily in the outdoors” when I road-trip to “the east side” of the Sierras a few days from now. Three weeks of bliss–camping, hiking and hot springs–that have become a summer tradition for my girlfriend (i.e. my partner in life and love) and me. In our case, there are no kids and no men to contend with leaving on the home front. After years going solo across mountains and countries, it’s wonderful to have a companion. Though I do long for a group of “girlfriends” to connect with, there’s nothing like my honey who is also my best friend.

How’d your road trip go? Hope you and your honey had a fabulous time together!

The most awesome and needed article I’ve read all year! I make sure to take my girls adventure trip every year…ok, sometimes every 6 months. It’s absolutely vital. You said it perfectly. Thanks!

Wonderful. So well-written… and so exactly right. I’m calling up a few ladies and planning a trip tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration!
