Skiing is to Life

Skiing is to Life

By Jennifer on December 29, 2011 | Lifestyle, skiing, Snow

A wise woman once said: “When it comes to skiing, there’s a difference between what you think it’s going to be like, what it’s really like, and what you tell your friends it was like.” She was so right. And, one could argue, the same goes for life. How else is skiing similar to life?

I tried boarding and gave it up all in the same season. My knees couldn’t handle it. But maybe my experience would have been different if Twisted Bindings had been an option. The rotating binding mount allows a boarder to rotate her front foot to an angle parallel to her board for easy, comfy maneuverability on catwalks and in lift lines.

Powder Stash Revealed

Powder Stash Revealed

By WAm on March 7, 2011 | Destinations, Snow, Snow Toolbox, Travel

Here’s why we love skiing in the Rockies in March: It’s just as likely to drop a foot of powder as it is to be a bluebird, corn snow day; most people have hung up their boards for the season so there are fewer crowds; longer days mean après on the deck in the sun. Here’s why we love skiing in Utah, specifically Little Cottonwood Canyon: time travel.

Cupid Strikes Again

By Jennifer on February 14, 2011 | skiing, Snow, Snow Toolbox

Sunshine and blue skies not only made for spring skiing conditions at Arapahoe Basin this weekend but also fueled the spark that rekindled an old flame. While I know this love won’t work out (owing to the fickle nature of spring ski conditions), I’m glad I spent my Sunday at the beach—I mean, on the ski slopes.

Flakes of Same Weather Flock Together

Flakes of Same Weather Flock Together

By Jennifer on December 23, 2010 | Snow, Winter 2010

While doing snowflake math earlier this year, I discovered that snowflakes form in so many different shapes because of the way ice crystals come together at varying temperatures and in diverse wind conditions. This knowledge wowed me so extremely that I shared it with a friend. He of course inquired, “Is it true no two snowflakes are alike?” So, I set out to answer the question of the season.
