Women’s-Specific Backpacking Gear: Because We’re Worth It

Gear

Finally. The outdoor industry is starting to realize that women are backpacking, too. We want packs that fit our hips, technical pants that fit our bums, and great-looking gear that’s tough, not simply pink and flowery.

ActiveJunky.com recently compiled a women’s backpacking gear guide that’s filled with more than 40 must-have items for the savvy female trekker and hiker. Here are some standouts:

Deuter ACT Lite 45+10 SL

Backpacking starts with a good pack, right? This weekend pack from Deuter is shorter in length with narrower straps to fit a woman’s body. Plus, it eliminates sweaty back syndrome thanks to¬†breathable hollow foam in the suspension that wicks heat away from the body and directs cool air in.

Nemo Rhapsody

Side sleepers rejoice. Do typical mummy bags make you crazy? This bag provides extra room in the shoulder and leg area, so you can toss and turn…comfortably.

Kuhl Kaya Convertible Pants

I love convertible pants; they are ideal for summer backpacking. But, I don’t love how unflattering most styles are. This pair from Kuhl, can convert from full-length to capris with a simple cord adjustment, and the legs also zip off to make shorts. Plus, the fabric offers 2-way stretch and and UPF 50 sun protection. And they come in a shorter inseam for petites. Yay!

ActiveJunky.com is running a Deuter backpack giveaway through July 31. Winners can choose between eight different styles.

Go take a hike!
